October 1, 2026
Facilities Management and Development (“Facilities”) is overseeing a renovation project on the third floor of the TMU Library.
To facilitate the work, portions of the third floor of the TMU Library and Library Building (LIB) will be temporarily closed beginning October 5, 2026, with impact to movement between Kerr Hall West (KHW) and the Podium Building (POD) via the third floor of LIB.
The third floor of the TMU Library will generally remain closed throughout the construction period, while the Library Collaboratory will remain open and accessible from the third floor of the Sheldon and Tracy Levy Student Learning Centre (SLC) at this time. Access to the TMU Library will remain available via the second floor of KHW, POD and the SLC. Floors 2 and 4-10 of the TMU Library remain open and accessible via the TMU Library elevators and stairs.
Access restrictions to the third floor of the TMU Library are expected to last until August 2027. As the renovation progresses, additional closures and access restrictions will be required to facilitate the construction work. Impacted building occupants will be notified of these disruptions as additional details and timelines become available.
How this may impact you
Third floor of the TMU Library temporarily closed
Beginning October 5, the third floor of the TMU Library (including the third floor washrooms) will be temporarily closed and temporary hoarding will be installed to close off areas under construction. Washrooms in LIB378 and LIB380, accessible from the hallway connecting POD and KHW through LIB, will remain open.
Eastern corridor open staircase temporarily closed
The open staircase in the eastern corridor of LIB, sometimes referred to as the “scissor stairs,” will be temporarily closed from the lower ground floor to the second floor during renovations to allow for the section between the second and third floor to be permanently removed as part of this project. To move between floors of LIB during the closure of the scissor stairs, please use the L1 staircase north of the scissor stairs or the accessible elevator at the junction between LIB and POD.
Accessing POD and KHW via the third floor of LIB
During the renovation, access from the third floor of LIB to the corridor and pedestrian bridge connecting KHW and POD via LIB will be temporarily restricted. During these restrictions, please use the pedestrian bridge connection on the second floor of LIB to travel between KHW and POD.
Access to the upper and lower floors of POD is available via the L1 staircase or the accessible elevator between LIB and POD, as well as the staircase and elevators in Jorgenson Hall (JOR). Accessible, barrier-free entrances to the ground floors of JOR, KHW and LIB are available from Nelson Mandela Walk. Elevator access between floors of KHW is available via the southwest elevator located at the intersection of KHW and Kerr Hall South (KHS).
