JOR temperature fluctuations for HVAC repairs Mar. 30 - Apr. 3
In October 2024, Facilities Management and Development (“Facilities”) undertook a project to replace the central heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) unit in Jorgenson Hall (JOR). This work was necessary to replace components that have reached the end of their mechanical life cycles. Upgrades were required to improve the efficiency and sustainability of the air handling system.
To conclude the project the main supply fan motor will be replaced. The work will take place for one week, from Monday, March 30 to Friday, April 3. Once the new fan is operational, the system will be operating at full capacity.
The work requires the main supply fan to be shut down mid-week, which will limit air circulation and climate control during that phase.
Disruptive work will be suspended on Tuesday, March 31 between the hours of 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to accommodate activities in the building.
This is the final effort required to complete the project and ensure long-term system reliability.
How this may impact you
Heat will continue to be provided to radiators through steam service, but heat dispersal will be impacted by the fan shutdown on Tuesday, March 31, and Wednesday, April 1. This will result in temperature fluctuations.
There are some measures you can take to help improve your comfort during temperature fluctuations:
- Dress in layers.
- Keep an extra sweater nearby.
- Close blinds or curtains.
- Keep interior doors open to improve airflow.
Rooftop demolition and cutting of old equipment panels will cause noise disruptions and localized odours in areas closest to the work. Work areas will be isolated behind closed doors to reduce noise disruptions. Pressurized fans will direct air away from occupant spaces to maintain air quality and reduce odours.
Contractors will make every effort to minimize the negative impact of their work.
