Update: ENG first floor offices will have ceiling tiles replaced Mar. 9-30
Update: Contractors will be removing and replacing the ceiling tiles in offices of the first floor of ENG daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.from Monday, March 9 through Monday, March 30.
Access to all offices with drop ceilings on the first floor of ENG will be restricted to authorized construction personnel during the work.
Contractors will be covering furniture, desks and computer monitors to protect them from dust and debris and will be vacuuming when work is complete in each space.
There will be localized noise disruptions in areas closest to the work and on neighbouring floors.

Update: ENG ceiling renewal on first and LG floors Feb. 17 - 22
Facilities Management and Development (“Facilities”) is overseeing a project to replace the existing drop ceiling (the suspended grid and tiles) in classrooms and offices on the lower ground level of the George Vari Engineering and Computing Centre (ENG).
Update: Phase II work to begin next week
Phase II of the project is beginning with the removal and replacement of ceiling tiles on the Lower Ground (LG) level in the ENG-LG-21 and ENG-LG-24 classrooms and portions of the corridors in the north and south ends. The work will take place daily from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Tuesday, February 17 through Sunday, February 22.
Access to the affected classrooms will be restricted during the work and portions of the Lower Ground corridors will be cordoned off while work is taking place. Access to the Structures Lab will be maintained via Stairwell 3 and the freight elevator at the south end of the building.
Noise disruptions may affect spaces on the first floor in areas closest to the work.
Scheduled quiet times
To reduce the impact to occupants, contractor staff has been advised that disruptive work may not take place during the following periods:
- Tuesday, February 17 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Tuesday, February 17 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
- Thursday, February 19 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

ENG ceiling renewal on 1st and LG floors Dec. 15 to Jan. 4
Facilities Management and Development (“Facilities”) is overseeing a project to replace the existing drop ceiling (the suspended grid and tiles) in classrooms and offices on the first floor and lower ground level of the George Vari Engineering and Computing Centre (ENG).
This work is scheduled to take place daily between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. from Monday, December 15 through Sunday, January 4. The project is slated to begin after the exam period and continue over the Mid-Year Winter Break when the university is closed to minimize the impact to occupants.
How this may impact you
Access to all classrooms and offices on the first floor of ENG will be restricted to authorized construction personnel during the work. Contractors will be entering all spaces, including private offices to remove and replace the grid and ceiling tiles.
Building occupants should clear their desks of small items and plants by the end of the day Friday, December 12 . Contractors will be covering furniture, desks and computer monitors to protect them from dust and debris and will be vacuuming when work is complete in each space.
Affected classrooms on the Lower Ground level include ENG-LG-12, ENG-LG-13, ENG-LG-21, ENG-LG-24 and portions of the corridors.
The contractor will make every effort to minimize the negative impact of their work.
