City installing bollards and gates at entrances to pedestrian walkways at TMU
November 25 update: The City of Toronto has advised that this work has paused pending further investigation of underground utilities. Further updates will be provided once shared by the City of Toronto.
November 19 update: The City of Toronto will be on campus beginning November 20 to install gates at the entrances noted below. As indicated below, bicycle / service vehicle traffic may be disrupted as installation takes place. Community members are asked to follow any instructions of city staff on campus completing the installations.
As part of a continued commitment to safety and placemaking at Toronto Metropolitan University, the university has been working with the City of Toronto to install bollards and gates at the entrances of pedestrian walkways on campus.
Beginning September 16, 2025 the city will install bollards on sidewalks and street entrances. In the coming months, they will return to install gates on the street entrances. The bollards and gates will be installed at the following locations:
- The west and east entrances to campus where Gould Street becomes pedestrian-only.
- The north end of Nelson Mandela Walk.
- The south end of campus, where Victoria Street becomes pedestrian-only.
How this may impact you
Bollard installation will begin September 16 and is not expected to disrupt any traffic on campus. Gate installation will be scheduled at a later date and bicycle / service vehicle traffic may be disrupted as installation takes place. We will continue to update this service alert as dates and details become available.
