Serious about gaming
Dr. Kristopher Alexander
Professor, Master of Digital Media
Dr. Kristopher Alexander wants education to be accessible and engaging to as many people as possible – and he believes video games are the answer.
The “Video Games Prof” and internationally ranked gamer is currently developing two original video games based on his research on engagement through interactivity.
Why do video games matter?
52% of Canadians are gamers. Video games connect to every single discipline, whether it’s project management, culinary arts, fashion, accounting, photography, statistics…
Education today is in competition with YouTube and Twitch. However, video game communities can help fix communication, access, as well as education on a whole.
How do you support graduate students as a supervisor?
I’m driven in working with people who are passionate about what they want to do. I always tell my students, “This graduate program is for you. I'm here to help facilitate what you want to become.”
I love being an ambassador for incredible students. And I’m there with them every step of the way.
How do you help prepare graduate students to be career-ready?
I really enjoy connecting students with where they want to go. I believe in these students so much that I say, “Find me the name of the person who's in charge of hiring you. I already have a job, so let me help you get yours.”
