Amazon Business at TMU

Toronto Metropolitan University holds an Amazon Business central account. The account offers volume pricing that has been pre-negotiated for TMU employees and removes the necessity for multiple Amazon memberships across the university.

In line with TMU’s requirement to comply with Building Ontario Businesses Initiative Act mandates, Amazon has attested that they meet the definition of an Ontario business.

TMU Amazon Business account details

TMU employees are eligible for access to the TMU Amazon Business account if they:

  • make purchases on behalf of the university; and
  • hold a valid TMU purchasing card.

TMU Amazon Business accounts are to be set up for payment using a TMU Purchasing Card.

Exceptions can be arranged with Financial Services. Please contact Purchasing Services via email and copy your manager for their awareness and authorization.

Amazon Business provides account holders with an expansive product selection at competitive prices reserved for business accounts. When making purchases through TMU’s Amazon Business account, you will have access to more than 41,000 Canadian third-party selling partners, most of whom are small to medium-sized businesses.

Amazon Business also offers:

  • Free, two-day shipping on Amazon Prime-eligible items (external link) ;
  • Access to millions of Amazon Business-exclusive products;
  • Business-specific pricing, including quantity discounts on eligible products;
  • Additional bulk discounts for orders totalling more than $20,000;
  • Mobile access to your TMU Amazon Business account via the Amazon Business Mobile App (iOS (external link)  and Android (external link) ); and

Savings opportunities

  • No Amazon Prime fee: Access fast, free shipping without paying for Prime
  • Preferred pricing: Receive education and volume discounts not available on personal Amazon accounts as well as business exclusive products

Curated, simpligied purchasing

  • More items to choose from: 10 million more items available exclusively on the Amazon Business account (over personal Amazon accounts)
  • Access to curated catalogues: Tailored to high spend categories with preferred pricing exclusive for TMU
  • Simplified purchasing: Orders are linked to your P-Card and TMU’s system for easy reconciliation
  • Negotiated high-dollar orders: Amazon will support larger purchases with direct pricing negotiations
  • Spend management: Enhanced reporting capabilities to improve tracking and budget management
  • Amazon Business Mobile App: Manage orders on the go using the dedicated business app
  • Add wish list users: You can add colleagues who do not hold a P-Card as wish list users. They can browse Amazon Business, see TMU's preferred pricing, and build carts of the items they need, then share those carts directly with a P-Card holder to complete the purchase. This keeps buying coordinated while giving your whole team visibility into available savings.

Supporting Canadian businesses

  • Access to a high number of medium and small businesses hosted through the Amazon Business platform
  • Buy Canadian and local: Preferred Canadian and local suppliers are flagged directly in the platform in support of TMU's “buy local” purchasing policies. With access to more than 300,000 suppliers across Canada, including 145,000 across Ontario, the Amazon Business platform also features a Canada Showcase storefront with hundreds of Canadian brands and thousands of locally sourced products.
  • Supporting Canadian and Ontarian jobs: Amazon employs more than 46,000 people across Canada, including over 28,000 in Ontario, and operates close to 70 operations sites coast-to-coast. Purchasing through Amazon Business directs spending to a supplier with a substantial and growing Ontario workforce and footprint.
  • Investing in Canada: Since 2010, Amazon has made direct investments of more than $65 billion in its Canadian operations, spanning fulfilment centres, data centres, tech hubs and the jobs they create, contributing an estimated $55 billion to Canada's GDP.

Ready to request an account?

If you’ve previously set up an Amazon account using your TMU email address, you will be prompted to select from three scenarios that best match your account’s purchasing history when setting up your central Amazon Business account.

The scenario you select may impact any personal Amazon Prime benefits attached to your account and may provide university administrators access to your account’s purchasing history. Please review the scenarios below for more context and to ensure you select the appropriate scenario that keeps your personal purchasing history private.

Purchase Scenario

Why choose this scenario?

What happens if you choose this scenario?

Will TMU administrators be able to see your purchasing history?

Scenario 1

You have no existing Amazon account

If you have not set up an Amazon account in the past, there are no account merge impacts to note.

N/A

Scenario 2

You’ve only made TMU business-related purchases on Amazon

Selecting this option will merge your personal consumer or individual business Amazon account with the new central university Amazon Business account and you will not be prompted to associate a non-university email address with your existing account.

If you’ve signed up for Amazon Prime with your TMU email address, selecting this option will cause you to lose any personal Amazon Prime benefits like Prime Video, Music and Kindle and you will receive a prorated refund to the credit card used to sign up for these services, if eligible. If you would like to continue accessing Amazon Prime benefits, we recommend that you do not merge accounts and assign a new non-TMU or non-Ryerson email address to your personal consumer or individual business Amazon account.

Yes, your purchase history will be visible.

Scenario 3

You’ve only made personal purchases on Amazon

Selecting this option will not merge your personal consumer or individual business Amazon account with the new central university Amazon Business account and you will instead be prompted to associate a non-university email address with your personal consumer or individual business Amazon account.

No

Scenario 4

You’ve made a combination of personal and TMU business-related purchases on Amazon

Selecting this option will not merge your personal consumer or individual business Amazon account with the new central university Amazon Business account and you will instead be prompted to associate a non-university email address with your personal consumer or individual business Amazon account.

No
