Study Skills and Transition Support

We offer you programs to help you develop study skills through workshops, individual support, group study and tutoring. We can help you to engage more effectively in your academic work. 

With peer academic coaching, create a personalized study plan; or drop-in to an online discussion-based course-specific Supported Learning Group. First year students can join Academic Edge, a weekly group focused on learning from lectures, time management and goal-setting, preparing for mid-terms, and effective reading strategies

How we support students

Program Details

Learning skills appointments are offered by TMU's Academic Engagement Specialist in the Spring/Summer Semester and by referral. Contact Meera at meera.govindasamy@torontomu.ca for more information. 

Students can discuss and develop learning skills including:

  • Time management
  • Note-taking
  • Goal-setting
  • Motivation
  • Attending lectures
  • Focus and dealing with distraction
  • Oral presentations
  • and more!

Book an appointment to get study skills help:

  • Work on time-management, effective note-taking, test and exam preparation, reading strategies and more.
  • Develop personalized study plans.

Drop-in to an online discussion-based, course-specific Supported Learning Group! SLGs meet several times throughout the week, providing you with the opportunity to engage with your peers and an experienced student facilitator. SLGs help you develop mastery of course content as well as critical academic skills!

At the Academic Success Centre, TRSM students have many resources available to develop their academic skills! The team of knowledgeable and welcoming staff are here to assist you to accomplish your learning and school-related goals, by helping you train to learn effectively. Support ranges from: Guided Academic Planning, Learning specialist appointments, Math support, tutoring, virtual study hall, and many more! The Faculty of Community Services (FCS) offers many academic supports! Students can book appointments with a learning strategist, peer support, or do a drop in session to discuss support needs. FCS Academic Support hosts workshops for students to develop and improve writing, learning and study skills, as well as learning groups with your classmates.

Available in the fall and winter semesters.

Looking for a quiet study space? Check out SLC 451 (on the 4th floor of the SLC ) between 11am and 5pm during weekdays. Schedule may vary.

Enjoy free snacks, plus Peer Academic Coaches are available to provide study skills support when needed. 

Low-Sensory Study Lounge 

On Thursdays between 11am and 2pm the study lounge transforms into a low-sensory study space. There will be low-lighting, fidget objects, quiet study snacks and Peer Academic Coaching available.
