Realize your future with TMU Graduate Studies
Cancer research meets better patient care
Dr. Michael Kolios, Professor of Physics and Associate Dean, Research and Graduate Studies in the Faculty of Science
Michael Kolios, an accomplished and award-winning physics professor in Toronto Met’s Faculty of Science, is conducting research that has the potential to improve the quality of life for cancer patients and save valuable resources in the healthcare system. His groundbreaking work uses ultrasound and, more recently, photoacoustic imaging to monitor the effectiveness of chemotherapy and radiation treatments in real-time – and it’s non-invasive. Physicians can then use this valuable data to determine how to adjust treatments before they’re complete.
Kolios is refining this research in the real world. He works with some of Canada’s top hospitals, like Sunnybrook and St. Michael’s, in downtown Toronto, where his new state-of-the-art lab is based. Here, Kolios leads the next generation of researchers, supervising promising PhD students like Eno Hysi, who is working on early cancer detection techniques.
At TMU, our professors make a remarkable impact on society while mentoring our graduate students and connecting them to amazing opportunities.
