Student Access Guarantee (SAG)

If you’re an undergraduate, graduate, law or continuing education student receiving full-time OSAP, you may qualify for Student Access Guarantee (SAG). SAG is a bursary to assist with your educational costs such as tuition, books, compulsory fees, equipment, and supplies.

Your SAG entitlement is based on the information on your OSAP application. This includes your educational costs, your program and year of study, your income, the size of your family, and your family’s income.

When you submit your SAG bursary application, our office (Student Financial Assistance) will review your education-related cost shortfalls. If you have an educational cost shortfall and have financial need, you may be awarded a SAG bursary. Please note that financial need is based on your AwardSpring budget form. Values vary based on individual student circumstances.

  1. Create a profile on AwardSpring, external link, opens in new window. Be sure to select that you wish to be considered for awards, scholarships, and bursaries that require a demonstration of financial need. An example of this is highlighted below:

  2. Apply for SAG on AwardSpring. You can apply for SAG each semester you receive full-time OSAP.

    1. The fall SAG application opens in mid-October until mid-November
    2. The winter SAG application opens mid-January to early February
    3. The spring/summer SAG application opens in early June to late July

Dates vary by year. Please monitor your AwardSpring account for specific open and close dates to not miss the application window. Late applications will not be considered.

Note: Applying for SAG on AwardSpring does not guarantee that you will be awarded a SAG bursary. Only applicants who are successful in securing funding will be contacted.

  3. We’ll take a look to see if you’re eligible for SAG. If you are eligible, we will either:

    1. Deposit the funds directly to your student account (RAMSS) if you have tuition fees owing. If your SAG bursary is larger than your balance on RAMSS, and you would like to receive the credit balance, you will need to request a refund; or
    2. If you do not have tuition fees owing, you will have your SAG bursary sent to you directly via electronic transfer.
