TMU launching a new purchasing program with Amazon Business

Purchasing Services is pleased to announce the launch of a new purchasing program between Toronto Metropolitan University and Amazon Business.

On June 24, 2024, TMU will launch a new central Amazon Business account, simplifying the process for employees who purchase items on behalf of the university, and providing an expansive product selection with preferred pricing reserved for Amazon Business accounts.

What are the benefits of Amazon Business?

When making purchases through TMU’s Amazon Business account, you will have access to more than 41,000 Canadian third-party selling partners, most of whom are small to medium-sized businesses. Amazon Business also offers:

In line with our recent purchasing regulation announcement of the Building Ontario Businesses Initiative Act (BOBIA) and TMU’s requirement to comply with BOBIA mandates, Amazon has attested that they meet the definition of an Ontario business.

Instructions for setting up an Amazon Business account

On June 24, employees who purchase on behalf of the university will receive an email from TMU’s central Amazon Business account with instructions for completing the registration process.

Some employees will be asked to convert their existing Amazon account

In some cases, TMU employees have previously used their TMU email address to register for an Amazon personal consumer account. For these employees to join TMU’s central Amazon Business account, they will need to register a personal email address to their original Amazon account and then migrate their TMU email address to an Amazon Business account. Employees are asked to only use their TMU email address to sign up for business accounts and not use it for personal accounts.

If this is the case for you, on June 24 you will receive a follow-up email from Financial Services with instructions for registering and converting your Amazon account. We ask that you wait for the email to follow the instructions provided and not attempt to convert your account ahead of time as TMU could gain access to your personal purchase history if done incorrectly.
