Tabling
Interested in engaging with the Toronto Metropolitan University community or have a message you’d like to share? As one of the busiest buildings on campus, take advantage of the foot traffic at the SLC by booking a table and connecting with community members!
Read about SLC Tabling FAQ and Guidelines:
Tabling space in the SLC is provided to the Toronto Metropolitan University community as a way to engage with students, build community, raise awareness, fundraise for worthy causes, and enrich campus life.
Tabling is free of charge for:
- Sanctioned student groups; and
- Individual students or groups of students conducting coursework or fundraising for a course-related activity.
Tabling spaces are intended for student engagement activities. They are not intended to be used as personal study spaces or for commercial purposes.
External organizations, including not-for-profits and charities, are welcome to collaborate with a Toronto Metropolitan University student group to support and strengthen their cause.
However, commercial organizations may not use a Toronto Metropolitan University student group to access tabling or event space. These types of "backdoor booking" arrangements are not permitted. If a student group is found to have facilitated a booking on behalf of a commercial organization, its tabling and event privileges will be revoked for the remainder of the academic year.
If you represent an external organization and are interested in tabling at the SLC, please contact slchelp@torontomu.ca with details about your proposed activity and to inquire about applicable rates.
Please read and understand the Tabling Guidelines before submitting a request.
Tabling requests must be submitted at least 15 business days before the requested tabling date and no more than one month in advance. Requests submitted with fewer than 15 business days’ notice will not be processed. Business days do not include weekends or holidays.
Groups may book a table up to twice per week, with a maximum of 4 hours per booking.
Please note: Current TMU students must also submit a request through ExploreTMU (exploretmu.torontomu.ca) prior to submitting a booking request through the link below:
Booking Form: (google form) SLC Tabling Request Form (external link) .
Please allow at least 2-3 business days for a response to your submission.
Please ensure that a representative from your group checks in with staff (wearing either Gold or Black uniforms) at the SLC Welcome Desk with a valid TMU OneCard prior to your scheduled tabling time.
The OneCard will be held for the duration of your booking and returned when your tabling activity has concluded.
Your activity must adhere to the SLC Principles:
- Be reputation-enhancing by design
- Enhance the academic and overall student experience
- Be intentional in its effort to collaborate with an existing group/initiative/activity/resource on campus
- Be welcoming to any student or Toronto Metropolitan University community member
- Be inclusive in considering how to make the activity accessible by minimizing barriers for attendance
No Shows
Tablings will be considered a no show if a scheduled Tabling event is not checked-in within 15 minutes of the scheduled booking time. Without providing 24-hour notice ahead of time, your tabling request will automatically be cancelled and your group will lose tabling booking privileges for a duration of 2 weeks.

Tabling Boundaries & Etiquette
To ensure accessibility for all users, organizers are advised that all materials brought in for Tabling, aside from a pull-up banner or signage on an easel, should fit on the table itself. (The table measures 6′ x 2′.)
Organizers are to stay close to their designated table and to keep pathways clear. It is recommended that you let students choose to stop and approach you at your table. You may engage with students, however, you cannot go out of your designated Tabling space to call out and stop students.

Music
Music may not be played at tabling activities to be respectful of other students and events in the space. No additional music/audio equipment is permitted.

Signage & Postering
Stand alone signage is acceptable (physical or digital – ie. banners, laptop monitor displays).
There is no postering permitted in the SLC. Alternatively, you may request an easel to put up your poster on the main floor upon check-in.

Food
Packaged food items are preferred.
In order to offer non-packaged food items in the SLC, it is required to have a Food Handler's Certificate and use proper food handling techniques (ie. use of gloves, hairnets, proper hand washing, visible ingredient list). We recommend ready-made food that would not require heating and refrigeration.
Tabling activities must follow SLC guidelines outlined above, which require using our approved tables.
The ramps and stairways are a high-traffic entrance and exit for thousands of students every day. We are working to keep this area barrier-free and open to ensure easy access for all.
The sidewalk space at the front of the stairs leading to the SLC belongs to the City of Toronto. Special permission from the City is required to set-up any type of activity there.
To keep the SLC looking tidy and world-class, postering is not permitted.
Digital signage may be submitted to the campus-wide screen network.
All tabling activities are listed on the digital screens above the 1st floor elevators for all guests to see.
Yes, please! Each date requires a separate request form to ensure accuracy.
