Frequently Asked Questions
Mentoring Program Basics
The program runs from September to March, but you can join at any point during the academic year. If you apply after September, we’ll match you as soon as possible.
We pair mentors and mentees based on the preferences you share in your application. Most often, these preferences include similar programs of study or shared cultural/linguistic backgrounds.
Our goal is to create a meaningful connection that supports your university journey!
Once you receive an email confirming your mentoring match, you should reach out to introduce yourself to your mentor or mentee, and arrange your first meeting - ideally within a week.
Our team is here for you!
Email us at tri_mentoring@torontomu.ca, drop by our office in POD 54, or connect with us through our TMP Community Portal (external link) . We will be happy to answer questions about your match, the program, or student life at TMU.
Log into your TMP profile, update your contact information and preferences, and sign up for the upcoming year in the mentoring program for your faculty using the green “Join” button.
In case of any issue, email tmp_portal@torontomu.ca for assistance.
TMP Community Portal & Event Registration
Our TMP Community Portal (external link) is the hub for all our mentoring programs. It’s where you connect with other students, alumni, and industry professionals, and register for TMP events.
Use your TMU username and password. If you’ve forgotten them, contact CCS.

Building a Great Mentoring Experience
Training sets you up for success by providing tools, tips, and resources for building a positive mentoring relationship. If you have a class conflict, let us know! We can arrange an alternative.
Aim for 4-6 hours of contact per month. This can be in-person, over the phone, or online.
Good mentoring is built on trust, open communication, and mutual respect. Be proactive, listen actively, and celebrate each other’s wins.
Reach out to TMP staff at tri_mentoring@torontomu.ca as soon as possible. We’re here to help!
Life happens - just let TMP staff know so we can adjust and support your mentee.
