Welcome to Winter Orientation 2026

Winter Orientation gives you the chance to connect with other new students, get familiar with different services and supports available to you, and get to know your way around campus. Whether it's welcoming you back to campus or welcoming you for the first time, we're excited to see you!

We've partnered with a number of campus partners and each of the faculties to ensure that you have an opportunity to participate in a variety of events. Keep scrolling to see what we've got in store!

This year, we are offering a variety of events for each of you to enjoy - whether it be to learn more about services offered at TMU, resources available to support your journey, and/or opportunities for you to build community on campus and make new friends.

TRSM Takeoff: A Winter Welcome

January 8, 2026 from 11:00 - 1:00 PM

Location: Ted Rogers School of Management, TRSM Commons, TRS 1-148 & 1-150

This Academic Orientation is designed for all incoming new students joining TRSM in Winter 2026. We welcome current first-year students who would like a refresher on TRSM supports.

This event is to introduce the many services and resources available to support your success, from faculty and staff to student programs and engagement opportunities. You’ll also get to meet current students to connect with and ask questions, along with your peers who are beginning their journey with you!

Throughout the session, you’ll:

  • Learn about your program curriculum and how to navigate your first year
  • Hear directly from upper-year students during our interactive Student Panel.
  • Participate in some fun TRSM-themed Trivia and enjoy a guided tour of the TRSM building to become familiar with key student spaces and services.
  • Meet the teams from Fit for Business, Program Advising and Student Success, Business
  •  Career Hub, Student Engagement, and the Ted Rogers Students’ Society.

DCC Live! 2026: Decades Party

January 12, 2026 from 12:00 - 3:00 PM

Location: Daphne Cockwell Health Sciences Complex

DCC Live! 2026: Decades Party is an 8-floor, time-travel-themed event held at the Daphne Cockwell Health Sciences Complex . This interactive showcase welcomes TMU students both current and prospective back to campus after the winter break, offering a fun and engaging way to reconnect with our community.

Clifton Strengths Part 1

Location: Student Learning Centre, 4th Floor, Room 449

When you know your strengths, it becomes easier to identify the things that allow you to do what you do best. CliftonStrengths uncovers your top 5 natural talents, and provides strategies for applying these strengths to improve your quality of life.

Attend this session to gain insight into your top 5 personal strengths, and to learn how to use your strengths to your advantage- both inside and outside of the classroom. Before you attend the sessions, be sure to complete a CliftonStrengths Assessment!

*Please bring a copy of your Signature Theme Report to this workshop.

Note: this workshop requires at least 5 students to be present, please RSVP so we can plan ahead.

By attending this workshop, you are one step closer to achieving one of the badges through the TMU Leadership Level Up program.

Vision Board: Map Your Strengths and Success

Free Store Pop-Up

Do you like free stuff and believe in giving gently-used items a second chance? 

The Sustainability Office is hosting a Pop-up Free Store –a one-stop shop for TMU students to pick-up secondhand treasures, all for free!

Choose from a variety of free items like office supplies, electronics, home decor, kitchen supplies and books to get you started for the school year ahead! 

No registration needed!

Join us for an opportunity for all chemistry, chemical engineering and graduate students to meet and get to know others in the chemistry community. Complete with free food and the opportunity for karaoke!

CliftonStrengths Workshop (Part 2): Your Strengths in a Team

January 15, 2026 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM

Location: Student Learning Centre, 4th Floor, Room 449

Note: this workshop requires at least 5 students to be present, please RSVP so we can plan ahead. In addition, you must have attended the CliftonStrengths Part 1 Workshop prior to this one.

Personal relationships play an important role in our everyday lives. In this session participants will deepen their knowledge of the four domains to develop an appreciation of others’ talents, and forming and maximizing teams.

By attending this workshop, you are one step closer to achieving a Self-Awareness badge through the Level Up program.

Winter Homecoming

January 23, 2026 at 6:00 PM and at 8:00 PM 

Location: Mattamy Athletic Centre, 2nd Floor Court

Join us for our annual welcome back to campus game with Winter Homecoming! This year, Winter Homecoming is taking to the court as the Bold volleyball teams welcome the Waterloo Warriors at 6 & 8 p.m. Fans can receive a Bold branded beanie upon entry and hot dogs will be just $1 while supplies last as part of our Loonie Dogs offer, so circle your calendars for this can't-miss event!

Around the World in Words

January 27, 2026 from 12:00 - 2:30 PM

Location: Centre of Urban Innovation Building, Room 219

Back by popular demand, Around the World in Words returns for its second year with even more opportunities to connect, learn, and explore language through community. This interactive language learning café and speed mentoring experience invites students, staff, and faculty to engage in short, guided conversations centered on real-life scenarios such as introductions, hobbies and interests, getting around a new city, ordering food, and learning slang.

Participants will rotate through themed stations, practicing different languages while meeting new people, sharing cultural insights, and building confidence in a low-pressure, supportive environment. Whether you are fluent, a beginner, or just curious, this event is designed to celebrate linguistic diversity, peer-to-peer learning, and global connection.

Come for the language practice, stay for the community, and leave with new words, new friends, and a deeper appreciation for the cultures that make up our campus.

Volunteer & Involvement Fair

Location: Student Learning Centre Amphitheatre

The Volunteer Fair is a vibrant event that brings together TMU students and a diverse array of community organizations and partners. It serves as a one-stop platform for students to explore and connect with a wide range of volunteer opportunities. During the Volunteer Fair, students have the chance to discover the various ways they can contribute to their community, both on and off campus. They can interact with representatives from different organizations, learn about their missions, and understand the positive impact they have the ability to make in the larger society.

This event offers an invaluable opportunity for students to enhance their leadership skills, as they engage in conversations and explore volunteer roles that align with their interests and passions. It provides a supportive environment for students to develop their communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities while working towards a common goal of making a difference. Participating in the Volunteer Fair allows students to learn ways they can give back to their community and aims to foster a sense of civic responsibility, empowering students to become active and engaged citizens!
