Dr. Nancy Walton, associate dean, student affairs, was celebrated for her innovative leadership and exceptional impact on TMU and the broader community with the Errol Aspevig Award for Outstanding Academic Leadership at the Toronto Met Awards Gala.
In one of her leadership roles as the previous chair of the Research Ethics Board, Dr. Walton fostered collegial governance and outreach initiatives, shaping ethical research practices at the university. In addition, her leadership on the Dimensions project, including the YSGPS Dimensions Report, championed equity, diversity and inclusion in graduate admissions.
“It’s an absolute honour to receive the Errol Aspevig Award,” said Dr. Walton, who was recently reappointed to a second five-year term as associate dean, student affairs. “For me, it’s very important to be able to live my values with my professional roles, and I’m thrilled that I’m able to do that and see those values shared by others, who are explicit about the importance of supporting our grad students and postdocs, while also supporting excellence and high-quality experiences in our graduate programs.”
Dr. Walton was also recognized as a valued mentor, empowering students and colleagues, and fostering lifelong learning in many of her leadership roles, including former director of the Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing, and her current role as associate dean, student affairs.
