The 3MT® is back, and the TMU community is invited to discover graduate research in a brand new setting.

This year, the research presentation competition will take place on Wednesday, March 25, from noon to 2:30 p.m. on the 8th floor of the SLC. Attendees are invited to drop in, watch and enjoy refreshments during this time.

The TMU Three-Minute Thesis (3MT®) Competition is an annual, university-wide competition that challenges grad students to present their research impact in three minutes in an engaging and accessible way, using only one slide.

Participants from a variety of disciplines will present groundbreaking research on topics including stroke detection using AI; addressing domestic violence through architecture; fighting global warming with machine learning; sex, substance and satisfaction; ethics in computing and exploring dystopian film narratives to critique the public realm.

Previous TMU 3MT® winners have shared compelling research topics such as:

The 3MT® provides grad students an opportunity to enhance their communication skills and explain their research clearly without oversimplification, important skills for careers in all disciplines.

This year’s panel of judges consists of Dr. Natalie Alvarez, dean of The Creative School; Dr. Cory Searcy, assistant vice-president, international, TMU Global; and Nicola Luksic, CBC senior producer.

The winner of the TMU 3MT® will represent the university at the Ontario 3MT® Competition on May 6 at Brock University.
