Julia Hanigsberg Make Your Mark Staff Award Recipients
The Julia Hanigsberg Make Your Mark Staff Award is in recognition of Julia Hanigsberg, former vice-president, administration and finance. This award recognizes up to six individuals and teams who have demonstrated excellence in one of the following areas:
- Client service – provides exceptional client service that is professional, client-focused and collaborative beyond the position’s basic responsibility.
- Community engagement – creates and maintains opportunities for collaboration and engagement with the surrounding community and/or within TMU’s community that have a positive social, civic, cultural, or environmental impact, and supports values of equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Innovation – challenges the status quo with new solutions and applies new ways of thinking that positively transform the campus and community. These solutions may be new systems, technologies, products, programs, or policies that tackle process, social, cultural, civic, or health and safety issues. This person or team is an intrapreneur who looks for a better way of doing their job.
- Sustainability – contributes toward an economic, social and/or environmentally sustainable initiative by developing a new solution, engaging people, or collaborating with groups on or off campus.

Vincenzo Carinci
Financial Services
Vince Carinci, TMU's Director of Strategic Procurement and Payment Services is an individual who brings an admirable level of dedication, integrity and thoughtfulness to his role. He consistently goes over and above to engage with units across the University to move forward initiatives and opportunities for collaboration and engagement both within and outside of TMU that advance the University’s priorities and values and have a positive social, civic, and cultural impact on the University. In everything he does, Vince takes a highly collaborative and collegial approach, and he is highly regarded across the University as a facilitator and problem solver.
Mike Hollands
Community Safety & Security
Mike is a leader in the development of a new and instrumental facet to TMU’s Community Development through Community Safety and Security: the creation of the Crime Prevention and Community Engagement Office. Under Mike’s tutelage, a select team was assembled and implemented strategic responses to issues facing our community such as crime, racism and discrimination, recidivism, space analysis and safety recommendations while supporting internal, external resources and agencies that could mutually benefit from partnerships, understanding and education. Mike’s dedication to community is reflected in the University’s values: supporting persons affected by crime and violence, alongside a commitment to mental health.
Harsimran Rattan
Student Affairs
Simran Rattan is being nominated for the Julia Hanigsberg Make Your Mark Staff Award under the Client Service area. Simran has excelled and went above and beyond the requirements of her role at the Career, Co-op & Student Success Centre (CC&SS) as the unit adjusted its operations during and after the pandemic. As the key person representing the front entrance (both virtually and in person) of the operation, Simran played an important role in implementing changes made to both CC&SS programming and services but also the platforms that deliver them.

Branded Materials Transition Project
- Nuala Byles, Athletics & Recreation
- Gina Vaccaro, Athletics & Recreation
As the university prepared for the new name, Nuala Byles and Gina Vaccaro recognized that the transition must uphold the university’s commitment to sustainability. As the Athletics and Recreation Department considered the pathways for the branded materials they would be phasing out, they strategized how to expand these efforts through a campus-wide Branded Materials Transition Project. The project has collected over 12,000kg of materials that can be recycled, (re)used or repurposed in the most sustainable ways possible. The project's impact extends past that of a sustainability effort by engaging the community, fostering collaboration, and supporting equity, diversity and inclusion.
