President's Blue and Gold Award of Excellence Recipients

The President’s Blue and Gold Award of Excellence recognizes individuals and cross-functional teams in the administration of the university, who have demonstrated excellence in providing services, participating in or leading teams, and demonstrating the TMU values to achieve sustained and outstanding results that have significantly advanced the university’s mission. Individual recipients’ scope of influence and responsibility may be at the departmental and/or university-wide level.

Individual recipients receive a certificate and a one-time monetary award of $5,000 (subject to applicable deductions). Team recipients (a group of two to 20 individuals) receive individual certificates and a total one-time monetary award of $7,000 (subject to applicable deductions) to be shared equally among members.

Student Affairs

Marcia prioritizes wellness on her team through exceptional leadership, modeling and support. As the Office of Student Care is composed of a slim team receiving a large volume of students navigating multiple complex issues, Marcia expertly balances the development of strong processes with a high touch service model that allows students to receive support quickly and supports staff in the high volume, emotionally complex and often time-sensitive work.

Marcia builds genuine cross-functional relationships across the University in support of students and the larger community. An example of her caring and skillful coordination is her facilitation of the Student Death Protocol.

Strategic Leads - Renaming - Central Comms and University Relations

In April of 2022, Ryerson University became Toronto Metropolitan University, and the first post-secondary institution in North America to adopt a new name on the grounds of inclusivity and to better reflect the values and aspirations of our community. The unprecedented project came with numerous challenges. Karen Benner, Derek Flack, Katherine Greflund, and Johanna Vandermaas created and executed a comprehensive and strategic plan that went from the formation of the University Renaming Advisory Committee through to community engagement, and from the launch of intricate marketing and communications plans to the successful stewarding of the acceptance of the community.
