IT Security
As the internet becomes increasingly hostile, the university constantly works to fend off attackers seeking to hijack accounts or steal information. But TMU cannot protect every individual from every attempt by attackers.
Three essential cyber-savvy skills
Your help is crucial in fending off possible threats and vulnerabilities. Hackers may devise new tactics every day but you can stay safe by knowing three fundamental defences:
As many as 30,000 account password-guessing attempts are logged by TMU each week. Each month, the university prevents 1.75 million connections from email systems known to send harmful messages. We reject close to 3.44 million monthly email delivery attempts from suspicious servers using invalid delivery methods to reach TMU users. On a daily basis, up to 450 emails with harmful attachments are blocked from reaching TMU users.
