Ushering in a new school year
It is my pleasure to welcome everyone back to TRSM for another exciting academic year. I hope you enjoyed your summer and took some time to relax and to recharge for the busy Fall semester. As I begin my second academic year here, I am reminded about how vibrant and active our student body is. Ted Rogers Students’ Society’s 30+ student groups are the heart and soul of TRSM, giving the hallways a consistent energy that you won’t find at any other school.
With these groups, students have the opportunity to get involved outside the classroom in what they’re interested in, making lifelong personal and professional connections - and making a difference - along the way. These groups are run by students, for students, and one of their unique features is that they are led by qualified individuals who have worked hard to achieve their positions based on their passion and leadership.
I also continue to be impressed by the many initiatives TRSM has to help incoming and returning students succeed. In mid-August, a two-day Pre-Orientation Program was held to assist students with their academic, social and personal transitions heading into their first year. This free program gave students the opportunity to meet peers and upper-year students, learn about campus services and supports and acquire strategies for their first semester.
In addition, we launched the new TRSM Student Advising department this Fall. This centralized department is the first point of contact for Accounting and Finance students and Business Management majors seeking academic advice. This includes everything from help deciding which courses to take to answering questions about different policies or procedures.
Finally, I am thrilled at the success of the Business Career Hub’s Bootcamps which launched earlier this year. These 20+ Bootcamps help better prepare our students for the workforce by providing them with industry-level technical training, such as Excel and Salesforce. And these Bootcamps are not just attended by students, most of them are taught by students as well. A big thank you goes to Nelufur Bhasin, BCH’s Manager of Career Preparation Programs and Delivery, for leading this process.
I have enjoyed seeing all of the achievements and exciting initiatives happening at TRSM during my time here and look forward to working together with you again this year to have even greater impact.
Wishing everyone a successful year!
Best,
