Ted Rogers School of Management will host an international conference May 15-16, 2023 with Universidade da Coruña (UDC) to explore new avenues of collaboration for teaching, research and future exchanges between faculty.

The UDC TMU International Conference (external link)  will explore how academics at both universities can collaboratively teach, guest-lecture, co-direct final projects and the like, collaborate on research including journal articles, conferences and funding, and prospects for future exchange.

University professors are measured and evaluated in their teaching and research activities in many ways, explained David Peón, an associate professor at Universidade da Coruña and visiting professor at Toronto Metropolitan University, Ted Rogers School of Management.

“This conference will be an opportunity for faculty from different departments at TRSM and my home university to learn about teaching and research merits required in Canada and Europe, examples of collaboration between institutions such as double degrees and research centers, and explore ways of international collaboration in teaching and research with peers,” he said.

Dr. Ozgur Turetken, associate dean of research at Ted Rogers School and Dr. Curtis Maloley, associate director of Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT), will give brief talks on teaching and research requirements including teaching evaluation systems, career promotion requirements and salary that exist in Spain and Canada.

Dr. Philip Walsh, professor of entrepreneurship & strategy at Ted Rogers School, will be a keynote speaker on Monday and will discuss, "Creating a proposal for a joint M.Sc. in International Business by TMU and CITY, University of London.” Dr. Murtaza Haider, professor of data science and real estate management, will also deliver a keynote on "Urban Analytics Institute, supported by TRSM, Caliper Co., Pitney Bowes, Stata Co., and IBM Cognitive Class."

Faculty from urban planning, computer science, health services management, economics, marketing, retail management, management, finance and accounting departments at Ted Rogers School will also participate in conference sessions.

The event will take place in-person simultaneously in Toronto and Coruña, connected by Zoom.
