Ted Rogers MBA team brings full spirit to 2022 MBA Games
Congratulations to the Ted Rogers MBA team for finishing third overall in the virtual 2022 MBA Games, and first overall in the event’s Spirit Competition.
The 34th annual MBA Games, hosted virtually by York University’s Schulich School of Business from January 7 to 9, 2022, featured 16 teams from across Canada competing in sports challenges, case competitions and numerous team spirit events.
The Ted Rogers MBA team came in top spot overall in the Spirit Competition after their strong showing at multiple events. The team placed first for the Dance Video and second in the Virtual Escape Room. They also finished first for the Inter-School Fundraising Video they made with Simon Fraser University, and second for Inter-School Fundraising. Together the two schools raised $15,208 for this year’s selected charity, Indspire, which supports the education of First Nations, Inuit and Métis people.
“I’m particularly proud of the way that our team members interpreted the Games’ ‘Unity’ theme,” says Dr. Donna Smith, Graduate Program Director, MBA Program. “Our first place Fundraising Video featured Team Co-Captain Rose Ghamari flying to BC to meet with Simon Fraser team members to learn more about Indigenous culture in order to bring back new learning and passion for Indigenous culture to our team.”
“The Dance Video, ‘Mask Off, Celebrating Our Differences’ also won first place,” she adds. “It featured an original narrated poem by Indigenous MBA student, Dana Marlatt. Our successes related to 'Unity' reflect the way that Ted Rogers MBA students collaborate, which is what businesses highly value.”
In the Athletics Competition, the Ted Rogers MBA squad came in first in both of the Wildcard Challenges, which were a way for teams to boost their athletics points by completing the challenges in the shortest time.
“Rose Ghamari and Bilal Zafer were superb Team Co-Captains, and Dr. Dale Carl was an amazing Faculty Coach,” says Dr. Smith. “We would also like to thank Sean Ingram and his team and Dr. Norman Shaw for coaching the case teams.”
Overall, Schulich finished first at the 2022 MBA Games and DeGroote (McMaster University) came in second.
