Dr. Samir Sinha appointed to the National Seniors Council
Dr. Samir Sinha, Director of Health Policy Research and Co-Chair of Ryerson University's National Institute on Ageing (opens in new window) , has been appointed to the National Seniors Council.
As a member of the advisory group, which was founded in 2007, Dr. Sinha will advise the Government of Canada and help to drive the national agenda on the health, well-being and quality of life of older adults.
“This is a critical time for our nation,” says Dr. Sinha. “The COVID-19 pandemic has laid bare the gaps in our systems and we now have the opportunity to forge a new future that better meets the growing and evolving needs of older Canadians. I’m honoured to serve on the council and look forward to making real progress to enhance the health, well-being and financial security of Canadians as we age.”
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Sinha has been a leading national advocate on behalf of older Canadians, especially those in long-term care, providing vital research and tools to help protect the nation’s most vulnerable population.
A passionate and internationally renowned leader, Dr. Sinha brings a breadth of expertise in healthcare policy and service delivery to the council. Earlier this year, he was appointed Chair of the Health Standards Organization (HSO) (external link) National Long-Term Care Services Standards Technical Committee. He is currently Director of Geriatrics at Sinai Health System and the University Health Network and has advised hospitals and health authorities in Britain, Canada, Iceland, the United States and China. He is also an adjunct professor at the Ted Rogers School of Management.
