TRSM Dean’s Council member offers connection to Ismaili community
One of the unique features of TRSM is its Advisory Councils – groups of business leaders who serve as advisors to TRSM and help inform the relevancy and direction of our programs. They also forge links to different communities, including Toronto’s Ismaili population.
Thanks to Dean’s Council member Shafiq Shamji, Director of Cloud Security at Scotiabank, TRSM Dean Daphne Taras, along with a group of faculty, staff and volunteers from the school, were given a private tour of the Ismaili Centre and Aga Khan Museum.
The TRSM group were able to get a first-hand look at the unique art and architecture at the Centre and the Museum, which feature elements spanning the breadth of Islamic culture. Both locations occupy 17 acres of Toronto land in the Flemingdon Park neighbourhood, just west of the Don Valley Parkway. The park connecting the two buildings draws on elements of classic Persian design with five reflecting pools, a collection of beautiful trees and manicured lawns.
As TRSM develops plans to address its own space needs, gathering inspiration from buildings of architectural significance that reflect the communities the school serves is critical to our success.
During the tour, the President of the Ismaili Council for Ontario, Sherarazade Hirji, discussed ways in which the community and TRSM could work together. Dean Taras shared these sentiments, saying “we look forward to hosting the Ismaili community at TRSM and advancing our relationship.”
