REM Co-op Students Win University of Guelph’s Real Estate Case Competition

March 28, 2018

Congratulations to TRSM Real Estate Management Co-op students Danny Su and Billy Caden and Architecture student Katrina Klemmer for coming in first at University of Guelph's Undergraduate Case Competition (URECC) and winning awards for Best Market Analysis, Best Financial Analysis, and Most Sustainable, for a total cash prize of $13,000.

This annual case competition challenges undergraduate students to redefine the built form environment by undertaking a development plan of a large, iconic site from the current Toronto real estate market.  The subject site for this year’s competition, which took place March 26, 2018 in Toronto, was a 27-acre plot in the west end of Toronto that housed the Mr. Christie’s Cookie factory from 1948-2012.

The four American and eight Canadian schools that competed in this challenge were tasked with creating a feasible (legally, physically and financially) development plan that would result in the highest bid price.  The students’ presentations were to prospective investors to receive their commitment to financially back the project as equity investors. Presentations included the proposed development plan, the financing plan including any/all investors’ expected returns, as well as the proposed bid price for the land.
