TRSM Distinguished Visiting Professor named President of Cape Breton University

David Dingwall, distinguished visiting professor at TRSM since May 2011 and former federal cabinet minister, has been named president and vice-chancellor of Cape Breton University (CBU). 

A lawyer by training, Dingwall lectured on negotiations in the MBA degree and undergraduate program and hosted the Ryerson Negotiation Project, where he interviewed prominent Canadians on their approach to negotiation.  He was also the co-director of the TRSM Canada-China Institute for Business and Development, which advances the understanding of China through research, educational and training, and public events.

“I would like to thank David for his work at TRSM during his tenure,” said Dr. Avner Levin, Interim Dean, TRSM.  “We are incredibly proud of his prestigious appointment at CBU and wish him the best in his new role.” 

Dingwall formerly served as Canada’s Health Minister in 1997, introducing and passing the Tobacco Control Act, which was recognized by the World Health Organization Association. He was also the president and CEO of the Royal Canadian Mint and Chairman and CEO of Walding International. 

Dingwall, who grew up in South Bar, Nova Scotia (near Sydney), previously attended Xavier Junior College which eventually merged into what became CBU.  He begins his new position on March 31, 2018.
