Ria Sidhu and Ella Miller have been recognized with the Dennis Mock Student Leadership Award, with Sidhu receiving the faculty-wide honour for The Creative School and Miller at the School of Journalism level.

This award recognizes graduating students who have made outstanding voluntary extracurricular contributions to their school or academic program department, their faculty, or to Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) as a whole. The awards acknowledge and encourage student participation in university affairs.

“Within a community of engaged and active students at the School of Journalism, standing out as a leader and being recognized with a Dennis Mock Student Leadership Award is an incredible marker of distinction,” said journalism chair Ravindra Mohabeer. “Both Ria and Ella have contributed to the life of the School of Journalism and The Creative School in ways that will leave a lasting legacy beyond graduation.”

For Sidhu, this award recognizes her leadership as President of the Society of The Creative School and her volunteer roles.

Ella Miller received the Dennis Mock Student Leadership Award at the school level.

Ria Sidhu received the Dennis Mock Student Leadership Award at the faculty level.

“I am incredibly honoured to be recognized by the Dennis Mock Student Leadership Award! Receiving this award reflects the years of time, effort, and energy I've put into supporting the people, community, and experiences at The Creative School and the larger TMU community. From my leadership as President of The Society of The Creative School to my volunteer roles within the School of Journalism and Student Life & Campus Engagement, this recognition is something I'm incredibly proud of and will carry with me moving forward,” Sidhu said.

For Miller, this award recognizes her leadership with the Review of Journalism, the Toronto Abnormal School, and her involvement in student life and politics.

“I am really honoured to be recognized in this way. I have never won an award before, so to be selected by the faculty as someone who has demonstrated leadership in my final semester of my final year feels very much like a culmination of all the hard work I've put into my academic career for the past four years. This was a very proud moment for myself and my family who have been endlessly supportive of me,” said Miller.

Mohabeer congratulates both students for their accomplishment.

“Congratulations to both, and thank you for all that you’ve done for TMU and your peers,” he said.
