Former journalism instructor joins prestigious fellowship
Inayat Singh, CBC national climate reporter and former Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) instructor will spend the next year as a Knight Science Journalism Fellow (external link) researching climate change.
Singh is one of ten journalists from across the world who have been chosen for the fellowship, to pursue a research project and take courses at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) starting this fall.
Singh’s project will focus on the use of remote sensing methods, such as GIS and mapping radars for climate change, bringing together his two areas of focus: data and climate journalism.
“I'm looking forward to the classes the most. It’s a great opportunity to take these world-class courses for free,” says Singh.
Fellows receive a $75 thousand stipend and basic health insurance.
In the fall of 2022, Singh taught data journalism at TMU.
Ravindra Mohabeer, chair of the School of Journalism, first met Singh at the instructor orientation in August, 2022. “He demonstrated a knack for telling science and climate stories using a human angle.”
“It's no surprise to me that he was a strong candidate for the fellowship,” says Mohabeer.
