For the student who is deemed to have shown the most promising newsroom leadership in the graduating year

A native of Scotland, Gordon Froggatt joined the merchant navy at 15 and later worked for the local Dundee paper. At the age of 22, he became a national columnist working in Glasgow. In 1958, he moved to Toronto where he worked at several outlets, including the new TV station CFTO, before joining the Globe and Mail. There he worked on the Globe Magazine, was a columnist, entertainment editor, features editor, foreign editor, night city editor and assistant news editor. After retirement, he and his wife, Marilyn, joined the Canadian Executive Service Organization and undertook assignments in Peru. He started a daily newspaper, helped reorganize a TV station’s newsroom and lectured to journalism students. This award was established by his wife after his death in 1994.
