Accounting and Finance students and Business Management majors at TRSM will now have a new way to get personalized academic advice to help guide their time at the school with the new TRSM Student Advising department (opens in new window)

This centralized department will be the first point of contact for SAF and SBM students seeking academic advice.  This includes everything from help deciding which courses to take and finding the right supports and services at the school to answering questions about different policies or procedures.  High impact advising continues to be available for all programs (opens in new window)  within TRSM and is not limited to the Business Management and Accounting and Finance programs.

A team of Academic Advisors will be working at TRSM Student Advising to help students make the most of their university experience, both academically and by connecting them to extra-curricular activities.  All advisors will receive training on strengths-based approaches to advising students.

“All students come from different contexts and have a unique story, so we want to support them as individuals. This is why all of our staff will be trained on strengths-based approaches to advising,” explains Paul Sileika, Manager of Academic Advising at TRSM.  “With this approach, we can work with students' passions and talents to help them succeed through their undergraduate degree.”

There will be approximately eight Academic Advisors on the team altogether, making it the largest group of Academic advisors singularly focused on guiding students on academics at Ryerson, says Sileika.

“To better meet the needs of students, the department will also have a team-based approach where all advisors are cross-trained on each other’s programs,” explains Dr. Al Goss, Associate Dean, Students at TRSM.  So, if a student’s assigned advisor is unavailable on a particular day, there will always be someone on hand to answer their questions.

The new TRSM Student Advising department will be available to SAF and Business Management students starting this Fall and be open Monday to Thursday 9am-6pm and Fridays 10am-4pm. Students will be able to book private appointments online and also come in for drop-in sessions as well.
