Congratulations to our amazing and hardworking alumni whose work is recognized by Digital Publishing Awards, National Magazine Awards, National Magazine Awards: B2B, RTDNA and CAJ.

The National Campus and Community Radio Association Awards

Amber Ranson ‘25 won the award for Excellence in Student Programming for “Seance Halloween Episode” for CJTM (Met Radio).

Kinza Zafar ‘25 won in the “OUT LOUD” Best in LGBT+ Programming category for her piece “Inside TMU’s first ever Kiki Ball” for CJTM (Met Radio).

CAJ Awards

Six alumni, two instructors and one student won awards for work produced in 2024.

Tyler Harper’s (‘10) Nelson Star piece, “In every Nelson he visits, Jeff Truesdell finds the man he loved (external link) ,” won Gold in the Community Written Feature category. 

Aloysius Wong (‘23 MJ), Valérie Ouellet (journalism instructor), Mike Crawley, Andreas Wesley and Catherine Cullen won Gold in the Data Journalism category for their CBC News: Investigative Unit piece, “Canada’s international student spike was blamed on private colleges. Here’s what really happened (external link) .”

Nalyn Tindall, a fourth-year student, won Gold in the National Newsmedia Council/CAJ Student Journalism Award of Excellence for her piece in The Eyeopener, “Getting by on gig work: The hidden costs of ‘easy’ money. (external link) ” Click here to read more about her accomplishments. 

Robert Cribb, Declan Keogh (‘18), Wendy-Ann Clarke and Owen Thompson won Gold in the JHR / CAJ Award for Human Rights Reporting for “Mind games (external link) ,” with the Investigative Journalism Bureau and Toronto Star.

Wendy Gillis (‘11 MJ) and Jennifer Pagliaro’s “The invisible girl (external link) ” for the Toronto Star tied for Silver in the Written News category.

Robert Cribb, Declan Keogh (‘18), Scott Martin (‘24), Norma Hilton and Rhythm Sachdeva from the Investigative Journalism Bureau won Silver in the Online Media category for their work, “Lead in drinking water (external link) .”

Suzanne Rent (‘02) won Silver in the Daily Excellence category for her piece “Build Nova Scotia gives Atlantic Road Construction and Paving deadline after company puts barriers at trail in Dartmouth Cove (external link) ” for the Halifax Examiner.
