The Ryerson School of Journalism had its annual Awards lunch on Nov. 22, 2019. Seventy-two graduate and undergraduate students received awards totalling more than $100,000.

"Each year, the RSJ Awards ceremony gives us the chance to celebrate our students' achievements and thank the generous donors who support our students," said Janice Neil, Chair of the Ryerson School of Journalism.

Fourth-year student Rosemary Akpan was one of the groups which won the Caren King Scholarship for creating the best magazine prospectus in their class. They pitched a magazine called Follicle, focussing on hair.

“I’m super grateful for this award because I’ve never really been acknowledged like this before. My group and I really worked hard in creating this magazine so I’m glad all our efforts paid off,” said Akpan.

Adjani Ngako Toussom, who won the Floyd Chalmers Prize for Excellence in Business Journalism, said the RSJ Awards are important for students.

“Having these awards is great for students because not only do they support student journalism and therefore journalism itself, but it validates the fact that our hard work pays off and that we don’t have to wait for graduation to make a difference,'' said Toussom.

The Ryerson Journalism Alumni Association (RJAA) Headliners were also presented at the Awards ceremony. You can check out our 2019 Headliners to see who has won.

We congratulate all of our winners and sincerely thank all the donors for the 2019 RSJ Awards.
