Program Descriptions
Programs listed below are offered periodically throughout the year. Please refer to the schedule above for current program times.
| Program Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Lane Swim | The pool is reserved for drop-in fitness lane swimming only. Swimmers must abide by the posted lane swimming etiquette guidelines as well as the instructions of the lifeguard on duty. Different lanes are designated for relatively fast, medium-paced and slower swimmers. |
| Masters Swim | The Masters Swim Program is a recreational program where participants can work on technique, speed and stroke improvement while enjoying the company of other swimmers. All skill levels are welcome, provided you have a basic understanding of the different strokes (Freestyle, Backstroke, and Breaststroke). Registration for Masters Swim is required, and is restricted to Ath & Rec members (including Toronto Metropolitan students). |
| Recreational (Open) Swim | Rec Swim is the perfect time to use the pool for free swimming, general practice, and overall fun. Lane ropes are removed, and swimmers do not have to swim in a lap-style format. Swimmers are welcome to use inner tubes, flutterboards, and pool noodles. Wheelchair users can expect extra staff available to assist with using the pool lift. Recreational (Open) Swim features technique coaching! This drop-in service is geared toward intermediate and advanced swimmers. Simply approach the Instructor on deck to request coaching on the stroke of your choice. Note: these are not Learn-to-Swim lessons. Patrons should already be able to swim independently before asking for coaching at Rec Swim. |
| Swim Lessons | Private and group lessons are available for adults at the Beginner level in multi-week packages. Lessons are available in women's-only and all-gender format. Registration is required. |
| Trans + Gender Diverse Swim | This is an inclusive, drop-in swim time for trans and gender diverse members of our community. Anyone committed to creating a positive space for trans folks is welcome to join in a combined Lane / Open Swim format. Privacy curtains will be drawn. See our page about inclusive and accessible change spaces for information about our available options for getting changed. But wait, aren't all programs supposed to be inclusive? That's the aim - absolutely! But we know that providing dedicated programs specifically designed to address the very real barriers faced by many community members can make a huge difference. Providing a greater sense of safety, support and a chance for meaningful community connections, our equity-focused programs are important on their own, and also enable further participation in all of our programs. |
| Women's Only Swim |
Privacy curtains are drawn for this drop-in Lane / Open Swim format. Everyone who identifies as a woman is welcome during this time. For the Women 's-Only Hours, women include all cis and trans individuals who identify as a woman, as well as two-spirit, non-binary and/or genderqueer folks. |
