Group Fitness Schedule

The Group Fitness Program offers a range of engaging classes tailored to different fitness levels, designed to promote physical and mental well-being while fostering a sense of community. Our program includes cardio, strength training, and flexibility exercise classes in the form of Kickboxing, Yoga, Dance classes and more! This diversity helps you discover the type of workout that resonates best with your preferences and goals.  All 25+ classes are drop-in style (ie. NO registration required), FREE and accessible for all TMU students, grad students and members with an active membership.

By joining Group Fitness classes, you’ll join a community of individuals who share your commitment to health, whether a novice or more experienced. The collective energy and support from fellow participants and instructors create a motivating atmosphere. With classes available throughout the day, fitting movement into your busy routine becomes more accessible. Our experienced instructors are dedicated to helping you navigate your fitness journey, ensuring you perform exercises safely and effectively.

Introduction of RAINBOW Series Classes

Group Fitness programming is available to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and aims to be as inclusive and welcoming as possible; however, to take more intentional steps to invite this community into our programming we have two classes being offered and identified as  RAINBOW DANCE PARTY &  RAINBOW RIDE + CORE to help those in the community better identify these opportunities. To help ensure maximum comfort, these classes are being taught by two very proud members of the 2SLBTQIA+ community and two excellent instructors. These classes are also for ALLIES, that is, anyone who is committed to creating a positive, inclusive space.

Introduction of WOMEN'S ONLY Classes

NEW THIS FALL!

Group Fitness programming is available and open to EVERYONE, women, men, those who identify as women and/or men, and gender non-conforming individuals. However, to encourage women of all abilities to participate in our programs and encourage equitable participation in physical activity, we are taking more intentional steps to invite this historically underserved group to participate in classes identified as WOMEN'S ONLY... Women's Only Pilates + Yoga Fusion and Women's Only Yin Yoga.

Women’s only group fitness classes aim to provide a welcoming, safe, comfortable and fun atmosphere for anyone at TMU who identifies as a woman (women include all cis and trans individuals who identify as a woman). These classes are being taught by woman-identifying instructors to maximize comfort and understanding.

To maximize privacy, privacy blinds will be closed.

CLASS ETIQUETTE REMINDER:

To maintain a focused and respectful environmental for all, we kindly ask that participants silence their phones and keep them tucked away during class. This helps minimize distractions, supports your instructor, honours your fellow participants, and allows you to fully experience the physical and mental benefits of the session.

Barre BARRE Fitness is inspired by ballet and uses the ballet barre and some additional equipment. It focuses on full-body strengthening and sculpting, incorporating some cardio and pilates-inspired core work, all set to energetic music. There is an emphasis on posture, alignment, coordination, and fun! Difficulty Level: Moderate.  Sweat Level: I'm breaking a sweat!
Bollywood Fitness Get ready to sweat, smile, and shimmy in the most fun fitness class around - where group fitness meets the high-energy world of Bollywood dance! Designed to get your heart pumping and your spirits soaring as you groove to the infectious beats of Bollywood! Difficulty Level: Challenging.  Sweat Level: Got my sweat on!
Cardio + Muscle Pump Get ready to unleash your inner strength and elevate your fitness game with Cardio & Muscle Pump. This ultimate full-body workout combines high-intensity cardio with powerful strength training. Build lean muscle and boost your endurance, all while keeping the energy high and the sweat flowing. danceFIRE A high-energy dance fitness workout combining easy-to-follow steps with today’s hottest music. FTR Circuit Step into the Functional Training Room Circuit and get ready for a workout that’s all about real-world strength, mobility, and endurance. This circuit-style class is designed to improve your overall fitness by focusing on functional movements that mimic everyday activities. Whether you’re an athlete, a fitness enthusiast, or just someone looking to move better in daily life, this class is your go-to for building a stronger, more resilient body. Hip Hop Fitness Bring your best moves for this high-energy hip hop dance fitness class. Discover funky steps and find your style with upbeat warm-ups and fun routines to hit songs.  Difficulty Level: Moderate.  Sweat Level: I'm breaking a sweat!
Jazz Funk Fitness Jazz Funk is an intricate and upbeat dance form inspired by jazz foundations and influenced by Hip Hop styles. This class combines technique training with fun choreography through slow and fast movements. This unique style provides a powerful energy and environment for all. Difficulty Level: Challenging. Pilates Pilates is a full body workout focused on developing a strong core, or “powerhouse” which includes the abdominal muscles, back muscles, pelvic floor, glutes and hips. All of which improve posture, coordination, and balance. Pilates matwork is great for anyone, any age, and any fitness level. Difficulty Level: Slightly Challenging.  Sweat Level: Definitely Getting Warm.
Pilates HIIT Experience the best of both worlds! This class fuses the core-strengthening, posture-improving benefits of Pilates with the calorie-burning intensity of High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). Through a mix of controlled Pilates-inspired movements & the foundations of muscle conditioning, you’ll build strength, stability, and endurance while keeping your heart rate up. A full-body workout that leaves you feeling strong, energized, and balanced. Pilates + Yoga Fusion A WOMEN'S ONLY CLASS. Find the perfect balance of strength and serenity! This class blends the core-strengthening and posture-enhancing benefits of Pilates with the flexibility, balance, and mindfulness of yoga. Through a series of flowing movements, breathwork, and targeted exercises, you’ll build stability, improve mobility, and leave feeling both energized and centred. Suitable for all fitness levels - no prior Pilates or yoga experience required. Difficulty Level: Moderate.  Sweat Level: I'm breaking a sweat!
Pose + Prana Discover the power of your breath! This yoga class combines gentle movement with guided breathing practices (pranayama) to help you improve focus, increase energy, and find calm. Each week, you’ll explore different breathing techniques - ranging from energizing to relaxing - while moving through accessible poses that support the practice. Perfect for all levels, especially anyone looking to reduce stress, boost mindfulness, and deepen their connection between body and breath. Difficulty Level: Slightly Challenging. Rainbow Cardio Dance Party

This is a class for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, AND anyone committed to creating a positive space for the community is welcome to join!

Rainbow Cardio Dance Party is the most vibrant, high-energy dance class where fun is the name of the game. Whether you’re a dance newbie or a seasoned mover and shaker, this class is all about letting loose, feeling fabulous, and celebrating life through the magic of dance. Taught by advocate & proud gay instructor, Diva Stiva is Canada's 2024 winner of IMPACT Instructor of the Year!

Rainbow Ride + Core

  This is a class for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, AND anyone committed to creating a positive space for the community is welcome to join!

Taught by a proud member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, learn how to take care of your body head to toe with 25-30 minutes of cycling, 10-15 minutes of core work to help with posture and overall strength, and lastly ending with a 5-minute stretch!

Difficulty Level: Challenging.  Sweat Level: Got my sweat on!
Salsa + Bachata Dance Party Join the rhythm revolution with our Salsa & Bachata Dance Party Group Fitness Class – a social dance fitness class that will have you grooving and smiling from ear to ear! Say goodbye to traditional workouts and hello to a vibrant, social, and interactive fitness experience. Difficulty Level: Moderate.  Sweat Level: I'm breaking a sweat!
Spin + Sculpt Spend approximately 20-25 minutes on the bike taking on any terrain… track, road, mountain, hills, flats, mixed in with some exciting drills… intervals, speedwork, cadence work, and isolated leg training, both on and off the saddle.  Then spend 15-20 minutes sculpting your body with weights.  End with a short stretch.  A perfect class fitting in all fitness components into a single, jam-packed workout! Difficulty Level: Challenging.  Sweat Level: Got my sweat on!
Spin + Stretch An indoor cycling experience that fuses energizing music with a variety of terrains to simulate an outdoor ride. Expect flat roads, hills, sprints, and endurance training for a well-rounded cardio workout. The class ends with a relaxing stretch segment to ease those hard-working muscles. Difficulty Level: Challenging.  Sweat Level: Got my sweat on!
Stretch + Flex This class serves as a form of active meditation, allowing you to focus on your body and breath as we stretch from head to toe. Stretching builds both strength and flexibility, helping our bodies to stay healthy. Difficulty Level: Easy, Sweat Level: Warming Up A Little.
Ultimate Bootcamp A challenging circuit class that blends traditional and functional training styles to improve your cardio, strength, and stamina. Equipment from Studio 1 and the functional training room may include steps, tires, ropes, TRX, weighted balls, dumbbells, and more. Difficulty Level: Challenging.  Sweat Level: Got my sweat on!
Yin Yoga A WOMEN'S ONLY CLASS. Yin yoga is a slow-paced, passive type of yoga that incorporates long holds and deep breaths for a stretch that gets deep into the muscles. During these prolonged periods of stillness, residual tension and stress melt away. Yin Yoga is an excellent practice for beginners by eliminating tricky transitions between poses. Those recovering from an injury or looking to lengthen versus strengthen will feel right at home in a Yin yoga class. Difficulty Level: Easy, Sweat Level: Warming Up A Little.
Yin Yoga + Meditation A slow-paced, passive type of yoga that incorporates long holds and deep breaths for a stretch that gets deep into the muscles. During these prolonged periods of stillness, residual tension and stress melt away. Yin Yoga is an excellent practice for beginners by eliminating tricky transitions between poses. Those looking for a mindful practice to bring a sense of calm into their day or wanting to lengthen vs. strengthen, will feel right at home in a Yin Yoga class. Yoga Flow Yoga Flow (Vinyasa) emphasizes the sequential movement between postures, coordinated with and guided by the breath. This class moves at a fast, continuous pace that builds heat and challenges strength, with smooth progressions from basic to more complex postures. Yoga with Meditation Find balance, peace, and strength in both body and mind with Yoga with Meditation. This calming yet invigorating class blends the physical practice of yoga with the mental clarity of meditation. Whether you’re looking to reduce stress, improve flexibility, or deepen your mindfulness practice, this class offers a holistic approach to well-being that nurtures both the physical and the spiritual. Yoga with Props Join us for Yoga with Props and discover a new dimension to your yoga practice. Unwind, strengthen, and find balance as you explore the transformative power of yoga with the added support of yoga blocks & yoga straps. Your mat is waiting! Difficulty Level: Slightly Challenging. Strength Yoga Do yoga that helps you build strength and stay flexible at the same time. Try different poses that focus on making your muscles strong while also enjoying the calming aspects of yoga. This class will also explore some of the more challenging yoga poses, such as crow, wheel, handstands & headstands, to name a few. This class is perfect for anyone who wants to blend the benefits of yoga with strength training and take their yoga practice to the next level. Difficulty Level: Challenging. Zumba A dance fitness class that is based on Latin dances and international music - salsa, merengue, rumba, reggaeton, soca, and so much more!  An ultra-fun full-body cardio workout that's an exciting way to move your body, offering all the physical & mental health benefits.
