Celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities with an engaging event consisting of a keynote speech and panel discussion that will amplify the voices and leadership of persons with disabilities in post-secondary institutions.

What to expect

Dr. Jay Dolmage, author of Academic Ableism: Disability and Higher Education, will deliver a keynote address exploring accessibility in academia and how we can all identify ableist attitudes and approaches in academic institutions’ systems and structures. Jay will recommend ways for students, faculty and staff with disabilities to have more agency and equitable opportunities in work and learning spaces.

After his address, Jay will be joined by staff from TMU and George Brown for a discussion on how post-secondary education institutions can proactively counter ableist attitudes and approaches and give more agency to persons with disabilities in work and learning spaces.

Panellists:

  • Heather Willis, Accessibility Coordinator, Office of the Vice-President, Equity and Community Inclusion, TMU
  • Sabina Chatterjee, Project Manager, Equity Partnerships and Training, Experiential Learning Hub, Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching, TMU
