As part of a return to in-person, community-centric Pride, Positive Space is hosting a weekly film series throughout the month of June.
Join us for tears, laughter, thrills, and popcorn! Throughout the month, we will screen a variety of films that represent, reflect on, and celebrate our diverse community.
Plus ones are welcome. RSVP is strongly encouraged.
Night 1: Thursday, June 9, 6:00 p.m.
Our kick-off feature is Bound: the 1996 seminal sapphic neo-noir thriller, and directorial debut by the Wachowski siblings of Matrix fame. Bound is a cherished representation of a realistic, albeit sensational, Lesbian relationship in mainstream cinema. Bound is about the boxes people make of their lives, and what they can do when they finally break free. Technically, it’s widely known as a masterpiece, and is frequently studied at film schools around the world. You can read more about the impact of the film here (external link) .
Trigger Warnings: gun violence, homophobic language, domestic violence.
Prior to the feature screening, in the grand cinematic tradition of pre-feature shorts, we will open the night by screening Erin’s Guide to Kissing Girls, by artist-filmmaker Julianna Notten, who will join us to discuss her film. Read more about her (external link) .
