Business in a Box Evaluation Report

In June 2013, Scadding Court Community Centre (SCCC) implemented the Business in a Box pilot project in downtown Toronto. The project builds on the Centre’s existing business incubator, Market 707, adding five new vending spaces for retail businesses. While the original market focused primarily on foodvending businesses with longer-term leases, Business in a Box is a unique one-month retail ‘pop-up’ model of social business incubation. In partnership with Toronto Metropolitan University’s Diversity Institute and LevittGoodman Architects, the Business in a Box project aims to develop a scalable public-private partnership model for poverty alleviation, and to support entrepreneurs by providing affordable retail space in the form of refurbished shipping containers.
