Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Human Rights for People of African Descent: a time to refocus

Date
April 10, 2025
Time
12:00 PM EDT - 1:30 PM EDT
Location
Virtual

The global calls for reparations for the historical legacies of enslavement and colonialism gain new urgency in this digital age, where systemic inequities within and among countries risk being replicated in emerging technologies. Reparatory justice for Africa and people of African descent will focus on the roles and contributions of key actors in shaping and promoting the global agenda for reparatory justice. Discussions on the human rights of women and girls of African descent will reflect on the integration of a racialized gender perspective in the global agendas for reparatory justice and for digital justice.

During this side event we will discuss the roots of pushback, shifting organizational priorities, different approaches for continuing to advance inclusion and address anti-Black racism, and whether a human rights framework is the solution in the wake of attacks on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
