Derek Liu (Kin Kwan) is a seasoned researcher and consultant with extensive experience in diverse sectors. As a Research Associate at the Diversity Institute, Derek supports and drives research and consultancy projects to advance equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility (EDIA) across various industries. Derek also specializes in developing Canadian standards documents.
At the Diversity Institute, Derek created two standard documents: a Publicly Available Specification on Self-Assessment and a Technical Specification on Certification for the ISED 50 – 30 Challenge. He also contributed to a report on ISO’s current status and gaps, recommending women’s representation, participation, and leadership on Technical Committees. Additionally, Derek developed EDIA training materials for the Government of Alberta, the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO), the Municipal Engineers Association, and Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment (MLSE).
Derek holds a Master of Arts in Translation from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Data Science and Analytics from TMU.
