New Welcome Lounge opens in the RAC

A new 'Welcome Lounge' in the Recreation & Athletic Centre (RAC) opened on September 15, offering much needed social and study space for students to connect, study or unwind before or after getting active, or any time.

Located adjacent to RAC’s active spaces, the lounge creates a welcoming space for all RAC users, while helping to lower barriers for students who might not otherwise visit TMU’s recreation facilities - a prime opportunity to reach new audiences and foster a deeper sense of belonging through recreation.

The lounge represents a reclamation of student-centered space and a return to the RAC’s original design, all unlocked by the arrival of the Mattamy Athletic Centre in 2012, and the modernization and reconfiguration of the RAC customer service and administrative area in 2022.

Located at the south end of the RAC, the lounge features a mix of new and reused furniture sourced from TMU’s Furniture Rehome Program.
