Our enriching Learn To Program is a comprehensive learning experience that opens doors to new skills and abilities. Unlike drop-in sessions, this program offers a progressive curriculum designed to equip participants with new skills and knowledge that last a lifetime. With a one-time enrollment fee, you gain access to learning the skill that best resonates with you. (Note: the fee will vary depending on the offering.) Dive into a world of possibilities with classes like cooking, dancing, self-defence, and more. Our diverse selection ensures there's something for everyone.

Our Learn To Classes are a well-organized, multi-week journey that ensures participants build a strong foundation in their chosen skill. Each week brings new insights and techniques. 

Our Learn To Workshops are a single day event, where you are immersed in a topic with in-depth hands on practice.

The skills you acquire during any Learn To Program stay with you long after the class(es) end, enriching your life and providing opportunities for personal development.

Step into the rhythm and energy of Afro Dance! This class introduces you to the foundations of Afrobeat-inspired movement, blending many traditional African dance elements. With dynamic choreography and upbeat music you’ll enjoy learning and improving your Bollywood dancing skills or be open to learning a new skill and style of cultural dance. KATHAK!

"Learn to Kathak" is a comprehensive course designed for beginners and intermediate students eager to delve into the graceful and rhythmic world of Kathak, one of India's eight classical dance forms. This course offers an enriching exploration of Kathak’s intricate footwork, expressive storytelling, and dynamic spins, providing students with a solid foundation in both the technical and expressive aspects of the dance.

 What You Will Learn:

 a) Fundamental Techniques: Master the basic footwork (Tatkaar), hand movements (Mudras), and spins (Chakkars)

b) Understand the significance of rhythm (Taal) and how it guides every movement

c) Expressions and Storytelling: Learn how to convey emotions and narratives through facial expressions (Abhinaya) and body language, 

d) Explore the art of storytelling through dance, drawing on themes from Indian mythology and literature

e) Choreography and Performance: Combine learned techniques to perform short sequences and classical Kathak compositions. Plus, gain confidence in presenting solo and group performances

f) Cultural Insights: Delve into the history and evolution of Kathak, understanding its roots in the courts of North India. Discover the cultural and spiritual significance of Kathak in Indian tradition and develop a a lifelong appreciation for one of India's most revered classical dance forms.

TRANS BEGINNER ON WEIGHTS WORKSHOP: 

Find Strength, Confidence & Community

Join us for a beginner-friendly weight training workshop designed specifically for trans and gender non-conforming individuals at TMU! Led by Craig Jeffery (they/them), a personal trainer specializing in the queer and trans community, this workshop creates a welcoming and affirming space to explore strength training in a way that aligns with your body and goals.

Throughout this four-week series, you’ll:
✅ Learn the basics of weightlifting in a supportive, non-judgmental environment
✅ Build confidence in using gym equipment safely and effectively
✅ Develop strength while honoring your unique journey and body
✅ Connect with a like-minded community, fostering belonging and support

Part of the trans community or are a gender non-conforming and need some extra assistance in the weight room from someone who specializes in the queer and trans community? Then visit our POP-UPS!

During our Trans Beginner on Weights POP-UP sessions, a personal trainer who specializes & identifies with the 2SLGBTQ+ Community is happy to:

  • Answer questions about weight training
  • Provide assistance with technique & form
  • Demonstrate how to use equipment properly & safely

All Pop-Up sessions take place in the RAC Weight Room.

Designed by women for women, or those who identify as women - cis or transgender. (Open to TMU undergraduate & graduate students only).
