English Language Institute Snapshot: Rena's Perspective
At the English Language Institute (opens in new window) (ELI), the philosophy is to "learn through dialogue". Classroom practise and group activities have helped students like Rena achieve confidence in their language skills. With a campus (opens in new window) in the heart of downtown Toronto, and many opportunities to network, make friends, and learn important skills, the ELI sets students on a path of success before they enter TMU!
Rena, an English Language Institute (ELI) graduate from China, shared details of her international student experience at the English Language Institute.
Why TMU?
TMU was my first choice because of the support available to students and the welcoming instructors who understand students’ needs. It’s also conveniently located near many tasty restaurants, shopping centres and spots.
How did your time at the ELI benefit you and prepare you for your undergraduate studies?
Studying at the ELI has helped me significantly improve my English skills and gain confidence in using skills in my undergraduate studies at TMU. Moreover, it offered me a buffer time transitioning from secondary school to university. As a result, I achieved a high level of academic success in my first year as a GCM student.
What did you like the most about your time at the ELI?
When I was an ELI student, I was eager to attend events and learn about the resources and opportunities available to me. I got acquainted with the ELI staff and received a certificate after completing the program, and a recommendation letter!
