Faculty highlights: What makes the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science stand out
The Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science (FEAS) combines technology and design — teaching you to develop innovative solutions in both fields. Whether you dream about designing airplanes, building robotic systems, or developing creative solutions through design and architecture, FEAS offers you hands-on learning to do all that and more across its programs.
For international students studying at FEAS, these are the top three highlights they think make the faculty unique:
1) Work Experience and Industry Connections
With optional paid co-op and internship placements, you can earn an average of $46,000 - $57,000 CAD of co-op income annually, along with 8-16 months of work experience. This can give you a strong competitive edge, along with opportunities to build important skills and connections. The Architectural Science program offers international travel and co-op options where you can join local and global field trips, work abroad, and participate in foreign exchange programs!
2) Hands-on Support
Counseling, workshops, and peer support services are there to help you thrive academically, personally, and physically. Staff and student ambassadors are always ready to help international students navigate life in Canada, deal with mental health challenges, study, and more.
- First Year Engineering Office (FYEO): The First Year Engineering Office is the ultimate first-year resource for students. They offer resources and tools to help you succeed. Focused on providing transition support, their award-winning team of staff and student ambassadors are dedicated to imparting customized assistance. Every year, they plan a busy schedule of orientation and campus events for first-year students and create personalized study plans, tutoring sessions, and study groups. In their upper years, students are also welcome to apply to work as a First Year Ambassador for FYEO.
"With over 50 engineering student groups—ranging from dynamic design teams like the Formula Racing Team and TorontoMet Robotics to interest-based organizations like Women in Engineering and course unions—there’s something for everyone. Through my involvement, I’ve had the opportunity to travel to Ottawa, Washington, D.C., Sherbrooke, and many other campuses and cities for conferences, networking events, professional development, and competitions!"
- Studios and facilities for Architecture students: With resources tailored to your program, Architecture workshops give you access to collaborative workspaces where you can thrive creatively and learn from your peers! Some notable workshops include the Woodshop, the Bench Room and the Robot & CNC lab. My friends in the faculty often get together here to work on their coursework and extracurricular projects in their own comfortable spaces and learn from each other!
3) Transformative Career Opportunities: The AERIAS Internship
AERIAS is a unique partnership between TMU and the Canadian aerospace industry that immerses students in the world of research and design in some of the top aerospace companies in Canada. With coveted spots reserved for upper-year students in good academic standing, the AERIAS internship is a great way for you to secure a spot for yourself in the aerospace industry once you graduate.
“What I enjoyed most about my program was the unwavering support I received from my professors. They consistently pushed me to achieve my best – from encouraging me to participate in international conferences to exploring new topics.”
With ample resources and opportunities, the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science can provide you with opportunities and learnings that send you on the trajectory of a successful career!
