Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) performed well in several areas of this year’s Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (external link, opens in new window) , including Management and Business Administration.

In the 2026 ranking, TMU tied for 3rd-8th in Canada for Management, and moved up to the 101-150 band in the world. The university has climbed a full band in this subject area for three straight years. It was in the 301-400 band in 2023, in the 201-300 band in 2024, in the 151-200 band in 2025, and has now reached the top 150.

TMU also tied for 12th-16th in Canada for Business Administration, and remained in the 201-300 band globally.

ShanghaiRanking first introduced the world university rankings by academic subjects in 2009, which was officially renamed the ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) in 2016. GRAS evaluates world universities across 57 subjects in the fields of Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences and Social Sciences.

GRAS is based on nine objective indicators grouped into five categories: World-Class Faculty, World-Class Research Output, High-Quality Research, Research Impact and International Collaboration. Each year, GRAS presents around 20,000 subject units from approximately 2,000 universities across some 100 countries and regions.
