John Clinkard is a senior economist who has undertaken macro economic research and analysis as well as industry and regional analysis of the Canadian economy for the past 35 years. Over the past ten years he was Chief Economist for Deutsche Bank Canada responsible for monitoring, reporting on and forecasting the overall performance of the Canadian economy from a macro perspective as part of the bank’s Global Markets Fixed Income Research Team. Prior to joining Deutsche Bank, John was Senior Economist and Director of North American Macro Analysis at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.

John was the Senior Economic Consultant to Construct Canada and has been a consultant to Clayton Research Associates, acquired by the Altus Group in 2007. He is a former President of the Toronto Association of Business Economists and has served in an advisory capacity to a number of private and public organizations including the Bank of Canada and the federal government.

John Writes a bi-monthly column, focussing on residential and non-residential construction, in the Daily Commercial News and the Journal of Commerce and has been frequently quoted in the financial press.
