Architecture Accreditation: CACB @ DAS

February 19, 2026

From March 1-3, 2026, the Department of Architectural Science (DAS) is hosting a visiting team from the Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB) as part of a regular periodic assessment. The visit provides the opportunity for external professional peers to affirm the program meets established professional qualifications and educational standards.

The on-site visit, which entails meetings with students and faculty, is part of a process that also includes review of an Architecture Program Report, describing compliance with accreditation conditions, and an online exhibit of student work, providing evidence for meeting 24 Student Performance Criteria (SPCs). These SPCs cover five categories of (A) Design; (B) Culture, Communications & Critical Thinking; (C) Technical Knowledge; (D) Comprehensive Design; and (E) Professional Practice.

While the visit serves to evaluate the program, DAS Chair Lisa Landrum emphasizes, “it is also an opportunity for on-going self-assessment, enhancement, and celebration of the Department’s collective achievements. It’s a lot of work to prepare for the visit, but it is also an invigorating privilege to assemble the data and documents, and, in doing so, appreciate the exceptional breadth and depth of curricular and extracurricular opportunities our program offers.”

Together with SPCs, the program satisfies overall Program Performance Criteria (PPCs) by exposing students to a variety of career trajectories and a broad range of experiential learning activities. The six PPCs include: (1) Professional Development; (2) Design Education; (3) Global Perspectives and Environmental Stewardship; (4) Collaboration, Leadership, and Community Engagement; (5) Technical Knowledge; and (6) Breadth of Education

The DAS architecture program, first accredited in 2010, consists of the 2-year professional Master of Architecture degree in conjunction with the 4-year pre-professional Bachelor of Architectural Science. Toronto Metropolitan University offers one of 12 accredited architecture programs in Canada and the only pre-professional program in Toronto.

The CACB is the sole agency authorized by the Regulatory Organizations of Architecture in Canada (ROAC) to accredit Canadian professional degree programs in architecture for the purpose of architectural licensure. More information about accreditation is available on the CACB website (external link) .

Thanks to student assistants Kyle Do Couto (MArch 2026) and Olivia Nunn (MArch 2025), along with faculty and staff, for invaluable contributions to the CACB preparations.
