Homeschooled students
If you've been homeschooled, we encourage you to apply. Use the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC) (external link) application and identify yourself as a homeschooled student on the TMU supplementary form. Be sure to check if your program has non-academic requirements.
Requirements for homeschooled students
- All programs require the completion of Grade 12 U English (or equivalent). Many programs have additional prerequisite requirements. Review your specific program page for prerequisite details.
- All prerequisite requirements must be met through formal assessment. This may include:
- Grade 12 U/M courses (or equivalent from outside of Ontario) completed at a Ministry-approved school (in person or online)
- Standardized tests such as ACT subject exams, AP exams, SATs, or university or college courses
- Grade 12 U/M courses (or equivalent from outside of Ontario) completed at a Ministry-approved school (in person or online)
- We don’t require completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent from elsewhere. Indicate on the TMU supplementary form that you've been homeschooled up to Grade 12
What to submit
- When asked for the name of your school on your application, indicate “homeschool”
- Identify yourself as a homeschooled student on the TMU supplementary form
- Arrange for the submission of your formal assessments (have the organizations send results directly to us)
- Combine the following and upload it as one document in the ChooseTMU Applicant Portal:
- Your home school transcript. This must include your name, date of birth, a list of all Grade 11 and 12 courses completed or in progress, mid-term/final grades, credit values and dates completed (or expected) for each course
- A portfolio that contains a brief letter written by you (the applicant) about your home school experience, a copy of a graded essay and course outlines for your senior level (Grade 12) courses. A course outline should include course code, course title, curriculum followed, key concepts, schedule of activities in the course (topics/activities/assignments), textbooks used (if applicable), assessment plan and grading scale used
