Mature Students
Mature Student Applicants
If you do not possess the minimum admission requirements, you may be considered for admission if you meet all of the following requirements:
- You are 21 years of age by December 31 of the year in which you will begin studies
- You have been away from formal education for at least two years
- You are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or are sponsored by a Canadian government agency
- You can present tangible evidence of ability to cope with the program at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) and have completed, typically with grades of 70% or higher, all subject prerequisite(s) or equivalent required for individual program admission
Please note: An applicant's complete academic record, including secondary school as well as any post-secondary studies (e.g. college, university, or other post-secondary institutions) will be reviewed and considered as part of the competitive selection process.
If you have attended post-secondary studies, also visit University/College Transfer Students.
Subject to competition, candidates may be required to present averages/grades above the minimum. To determine the admission average, all subject prerequisite course grades are averaged. The average required for admission purposes will vary by program and is determined on the basis of competition. Where only one prerequisite is required for a program, the grade in that course must be competitive for admission purposes.
If you think you may be eligible under TMU's Mature Student policy, you are required to follow all usual application procedures and arrange the submission of the same official academic transcripts (including promotion/graduation status) and other documents as all other applicants.
In support of your application, include the following on your Supplementary Form:
- Why you have chosen the program to which you've applied
- Your career ambitions and goals
- Your past work experience
