Accessing Our Spaces

People walking through TMU's rooftop garden.

Important notice: In response to COVID-19 and delayed construction for safety upgrades on the rooftop farm, the Urban Farm has temporarily reduced its operations and cancelled programming until further notice.

Learn about the physical accessibility of TMU Urban Farm spaces.

Rooftop farm

The rooftop farm is located on the Andrew and Valerie Pringle Environmental Green Roof above the George Vari Engineering and Computing Centre. For safety and liability reasons, access to the rooftop farm is limited to our programming and scheduled tours. Physical access to the space is not barrier-free at this point in time. As of April 2018, the rooftop farm is under construction to improve operations and accessibility.

To access the space, there are two options:

Option 1

  • take the main elevators to 4th floor
  • take 23 steps up to the tool area
  • take 2 steps up to rooftop doorway
  • take 1 step down to main walkway
  • walkways on the rooftop are 4-ft wide paving stones surrounded by gravel

Option 2

  • take the freight elevator to mechanical room (please note that this room can be very loud when mechanical equipment is in operation)
  • take 3 steps up to rooftop entrance
  • take 1 step down to garden bed level
  • take 1 step down to main walkway
  • walkways on the rooftop are 4-ft wide paving stones surrounded by gravel
  • a temporary accessible ramp is available to be set up in the mechanical room by request
