Fall 2025 final exam preparations with D2L Brightspace

November 21, 2025

As you prepare your D2L Brightspace course shell for final exams, we are sharing tips and resources that may be helpful. If your Academic Assistants are supporting the setup and delivery of exams, it may be beneficial to share these resources with them as well.

Check out the D2L Brightspace exam guide

The Brightspace exam guide for instructors includes guidance for setting up and running both online and in-person exams that use digital grading tools through Brightspace, including Akindi and Crowdmark.

Review your exam with a Brightspace specialist

Once your exam is set up in Brightspace, we can help ensure the exam is set to be released to the right students at the right time. Book a quick review of your exam release settings with a specialist at courses@torontomu.ca.

Create a sample exam for your students

You can set up a sample exam in Brightspace that uses the same components you plan to use for the real exam, including the same tool, methods of question delivery and any additional technologies. This allows your students to try the technology in advance, using the same device and internet connection they plan to use for the real exam, and work out any issues.

To avoid confusion for your students, please be sure to name the sample exam clearly, and set the sample exam to end prior to the scheduled exam time.

Share an exam preparation guide with your students

To help your students prepare for taking online exams, including where to find help if technical difficulties arise during an exam, consider sharing our resource on preparing for your online final exams in D2L Brightspace.
