Student Funding
Post-graduate education is an important investment of time and resources. Toronto Metropolitan University and the Faculty of Science provides as much assistance as possible to help eligible students. Professional programs are typically self-funded. But the majority of our science programs are research/thesis-based in which domestic students who gain admission are also offered funding packages.

Funding for Research-Based Graduate Students
Domestic students accepted into research/thesis based graduate programs are typically offered base funding packages. These vary by program and may be composed of a variety of sources, such as fellowships, scholarships, stipends, and research or teaching assistantships.

The university offers a number of scholarships, fellowships and awards for graduate students. Some are also offered through individual faculties or donors. Some examples include:
Outside of Toronto Metropolitan, various organizations, such as federal research funding agencies, the provincial government, corporations and foundations, offer awards and scholarships.

A Graduate Student Stipend is typically paid by a supervising faculty member to a research trainee. Please contact your graduate program and faculty supervisor for further information.
Graduate students may be offered employment as Research Assistants or Graduate or Teaching Assistants. Roles typically involve research outside of your own studies, or teaching or related duties on behalf of faculty members. Find out more about assistantship positions.
Conferences and other academic events are excellent opportunities for graduate students to present their research, build a professional network and learn about the latest developments in their discipline. Various sources of funding are available to assist with the cost of travel, accommodations and attendance, including:

- Collective bargaining units for graduate assistants, such as CUPE Unit 3 (external link)
Supplementary Financial Assistance
Student loans and emergency bursaries may be available through the Student Financial Assistance office.
